I ran cross country in high school and resumed running 11 years ago after a long absence. Since resuming running, I have completed 57 marathons, including Boston twice, and countless shorter distance races. I love running events – the energy, the support, and the finish lines add to the allure of running for me. I also believe in serving the running community. I’ve been a board member and President of Rockford Road Runners (Rockford, IL) and Treasurer for our Frontrunners club, along with volunteering at different events.
I am deeply appreciative of the people I have met and the friends I’ve made with our FRFW group. The group’s activities and people allow me to talk about the LGBT world with folks at work and across Illinois school districts. I look forward to Saturdays’ Totem Pole starts and look forward to the day when work doesn’t keep me out of town on Tuesdays!
Running with Frontrunners is a big part of my journey since I came out in 2016, living a positive, healthy lifestyle, feeling part of a community and making some great friends along the way.
Running is how I challenge myself, physically and mentally. It is also one of my social circles, a way to connect with people who have similar interests. The fact that Frontrunners is an LGBTA running club was so important to me since I came to the club shortly after coming out. I really appreciated the knowledge that I was among other members of the community and allies.
